RetortsLibraries DefendedYour editorial of March 1992 may have your readers wondering what sort of library network Christchurch operates if it does not have a science section. May I assure them that the Canterbury Public Library through its Central and Community Libraries knows full well the importance of science and this is reflected in its collections. The "library" to which you refer is not part of the professional network but is mainly a fiction book club staffed by volunteers. I am sure your readers would find that any professionally staffed library anywhere in New Zealand would cater for the sciences as well as the arts.
